How to Choose the Right Jewelry for Your Wedding | Las Vegas Wedding Planner

November 27, 2018

The big day is drawing closer each day. Your wedding dress has been delivered, and you’ve just picked up your fancy heels to pair it with. Putting a wedding-day look together with jewelry and accessories that reflect your personality and vision can be overwhelming. Narrow down your choices and pick timeless pieces that you can wear beyond the big day. Here are 7 things to keep in mind when shopping for wedding accessories that shows off your unique taste.

Pick something that reflects your style

Don’t shift your style for the wedding. You’ve picked up a wedding dress that represents your fashion sense.   If you’re minimalistic, a pair of diamond stud earrings set in gold or platinum may be all you need to pair with your long-sleeved, high neck gown. Stick to your own style and wear what you love.

Choose pieces that show your personality

Of course, you want to choose jewelry that embodies who you are. If you’re not comfortable wearing chandelier earrings or bracelets were never “you,” there’s no need to check on these just because other brides are wearing them. At the end of it all, you want to look very much like YOU on your big moment

Take a look at the neckline

The neckline is one of the most important aspects to consider when looking at wedding accessories. Necklaces shouldn’t overlap your dress. Looking at your gown’s neckline essentially tells you about the length and type of the jewelry to wear.  If you’re wearing a strapless dress—a popular style choice among brides—or a V-neck gown, you have a large area of exposed skin to work with. Look for necklaces with bold designs that call for just the right attention. Make sure that the piece is at a medium length. If it’s too long, it might appear unbalanced. If you’re wearing a dress with a higher neck, a nice pair of statement earrings should do.

Pair your jewelry with your gown’s hue

Wedding dresses don’t come in just one color. There are different hues of white: ivory, candlelight, champagne, blush, and the list goes on. It’s best to find jewelry pieces that complement your gown’s color. Ivory is a universally flattering shade and pairs well with gold pieces. On the other hand, champagne dresses look good with any metal color, and rose gold accents go well with blush bridal dresses.

Don’t go overboard

Looking for wedding accessories can be overwhelming, and it’s easy to go overboard. You want to look comfortable and  it’s not the right time to experiment with new and unconventional styles that don’t match your personality.  Take a look at your gown and remember to keep everything simple yet elegant. Before you check out your jewelry choices, ask yourself: will you still like these 15 years from now?

Consider your veil

Sure, you won’t probably wear your veil the whole time. But the veil is one of the elements that give that “wow” factor when you walk down the aisle. So it’s best to make sure that your wedding headpiece and other accessories go well with the veil.

If you’re wearing a simple veil, a pair of chandelier earrings or a crown can be a good choice. If  you are opting for a dramatic cathedral veil you will want to keep simpler jewelry to not overpower your  dress.

Try it on

Shopping online can be tricky, you won’t know the quality until you see it in person.  Trying on the jewelry in-person or making sure the online store has a good return policy is a good idea. If possible, wear something that resembles your wedding dress’ neckline so you can easily shop for pieces that pair well with it. This can also give you a better sense of how it would go with your overall attire.
